This season we explored flora and fauna for embellishments, color, and texture.
Flowers
Flowers have always been an important symbol in fashion and art, reworked through every era, going from painterly and soft, to graphic and pop or hippie.
We wanted to play with how we could interpret flowers into something more dimensional than just a floral print.
We started by draping vivid neon pink silk duchesse into soft 3D petals, forming voluminous flowers. We constructed these into a soft monumental couture gown and sexy separates, such as a halter flower top with a matching mini, evoking a mashup of the 60s and 90s.
This season, our signature embroidered crystals items feature lush flowers and spikes. We crafted petals out of cup chains and connected them into 3D flowers, later translated into dramatic accessories like earrings and chokers. We added spikes resembling thorny vines, infusing a punk energy. These elements together became harnesses, bodysuits, floral leggings, and flower face masks.
Leopard hearts
To offset the bright floral hues, we wanted to juxtapose them with more grounded and natural tones, by exploring animal prints. We painted leopard spots that resemble hearts, infusing the collection with a sense of romance. The print is woven into a washed twill that has an aged feel about it, showcased through bustiers, godet dresses and a strong 80s trench.
These natural animal colors are also infused into our signature houndstooth, this season in brown and beige.
Tailoring this season has a stronger shoulder creating a graphic silhouette, backs are bejeweled or sexy and bare, or oversized and embroidered with spike trim and Area varsity patches.
This season was about showcasing our versatility, creating clothes for different people to relate to and adapt it to their own bodies and lives. Area is multifaceted, it can be high octane and over the top, but also stripped down to essentials.
This is how we feel about femininity as well. It’s naturally diverse.
