Chavarria links community, craft, and cotton in his new underwear line.

Willy Chavarria has always treated clothing as a marker of self-worth; his new venture, WILLY Underwear collection, presses that belief against the skin. Chavarria, who collected his second consecutive CFDA American Menswear Designer of the Year award in October 2024, channels that same inclusive ethos into women’s intimates. The line extends the designer’s ongoing push for visibility—this time through briefs and ribbed tanks cut from Peruvian Pima cotton, celebrated for its soft hand and long-lasting strength.
A press note frames the project as “an everyday underwear line for everyone,” and the sentiment holds in the details. Chavarria resists gender rules by offering straightforward silhouettes sized for all bodies, a quiet yet pointed rebuff to the idea that comfort and sensuality belong to one group over another. “Underwear is our most intimate clothing. I like it to feel good — and make us feel hot,” he states with the plain conviction that has made his runway shows rallying points for LGBTQIA+ communities.

The campaign, shot by Marco Ovando and Diego Bendezu, channels 1970s gloss. Low-slung poses, amber lighting, and a mixed cast lean into the decade’s unapologetic self-confidence while underscoring the brand’s message: desire has no fixed identity. It is the latest in a year that has seen Chavarria cruise low-rider clubs in Paris and stage politically charged catwalk moments, all without pausing for breath.
Choosing Peru for production is equally pointed. The South American nation’s deep knitwear know-how pairs with cotton grown in coastal valleys, resulting in fabric that sits lightly yet endures wash after wash—a practical argument for slow fashion made through material choice rather than slogan.

WILLY Underwear follows the designer’s distressed-finish capsule released earlier this season, yet the mood here feels calmer, even pragmatic. These pieces are built to live in drawers, not archives, and to be worn by anyone who wants an underlayer that whispers rather than shouts. The line arrives today on the brand’s e-commerce site; expect it to reach select stockists in the coming months.
