The opening-day crowd at WWDC formed two lines, one for badges, the other for black-and-white hoodies embroidered with the six-color bite. The latter moved faster. By the time the keynote countdown ticked under ten minutes, the garment rack looked noticeably lighter.

Each piece keeps the throwback crisp: a hoodie with the lowercase “apple” tucked into the bite; a tee where the 1977 stripes float solo across soft cotton, letting typography class graduates spot the Garamond from a distance.

Don’t bother refreshing the Apple Store app. Staff say the drop is Visitor-Center only, and early shoppers are already forecasting three-digit mark-ups on resale sites before the first beta ships.

Apple’s last full flirtation with apparel happened in 1986, when “The Apple Collection” offered neon polos and Patagonia windbreakers to a very different audience. That project fizzled, but collectors still hunt the catalog; today’s pared-back release is a quieter salute to that brief adventure.

Call it product placement for the brand itself: rainbow nostalgia on cotton, timed to a conference about software futures. If you grabbed one, you’re wearing the week’s most talked-about upgrade.
