Miu Miu’s Upcycled project is back, pushing into its fifth season with a new twist for Holiday 2024. For the first time, it’s not just a piece here or a jacket there—this time, it’s an entire wardrobe. It’s part of Miu Miu’s broader plan for sustainability and circular fashion, which feels more relevant than ever. The result? Four distinct mini-collections, each giving a second life to old favorites.
The story of this collection runs deep, weaving through upcycled leather, kilts from the ’50s to the ’70s, archival yarns, and lace embroidered with rich history. This is Miu Miu creating nostalgia for a future we haven’t yet seen.
First up, leather. Originally debuted back in Fall/Winter 2022, the upcycled leather pieces return with biker jackets, now reimagined with bold patches and symbols—flowers, flames, jeweled embroideries. The jackets are unmistakably Miu Miu—a flashback to Spring/Summer 2011 with a bit of Autumn/Winter 2024 thrown in. Each piece gets stripped back and rebuilt: satin-lined, quilted bodices, raw edges, and a detachable shearling collar for good measure. It’s a fine line between roughness and craftsmanship—every detail, from the repositioned zippers to the handcrafted logos, is deliberate.
Kilts make an unexpected appearance, rescued from decades past. They sit lower now, dropping off the hip, leather panels reworking their silhouette. The tartans are bold, topped with black trompe l’oeil effects or sparkling with hand-embroidered stones—a kind of punk luxury that feels right in step with today.
Then there’s the yarn, where archival remnants take center stage, hand-knitted into hoodies, scarves, and other cozy pieces. The collection includes chunky crewnecks and small accessories, all stamped with a crochet-knit Miu Miu logo. It’s about warmth—physically, yes—but also in the personal touches and the throwback aesthetic. A pair of knitted slippers and the Wander bag round out this casual but unmistakably Miu Miu lineup.
And there’s a nod to the future too: Miu Miu partners with the Aura Blockchain Consortium to track each piece through blockchain technology—a transparency move that speaks to the increasingly savvy luxury consumer.
To showcase all this, Miu Miu’s Holiday campaign features Emma Corrin, photographed by Lengua. It’s a nod to classic postcard portraiture, but with that Miu Miu edge. The Upcycled 2024 collection is available now, online and in select stores worldwide.
