Paul Andrew Takes the Helm at Sergio Rossi as Creative Director

Andrew, known for his eponymous shoe line and his transformative tenure at Salvatore Ferragamo, brings a blend of innovative design and pragmatic craftsmanship to Sergio Rossi. His previous role at Ferragamo saw him pioneering in both men’s and women’s collections, showcasing his versatility and forward-thinking approach. He left Ferragamo in 2021, and now his sights are set on revitalizing Sergio Rossi.

The brand, renowned for its meticulously crafted $900 strappy sandals and sleek slingback pumps, made waves in the 1970s and ’80s through collaborations with fashion legends like Gianni Versace and Azzedine Alaïa. Despite its storied past, Sergio Rossi has faced challenges, particularly under the ownership of French luxury conglomerate Kering, which struggled to maintain growth in the competitive luxury footwear market.

Since being acquired by Fosun Group (now Lanvin Group) in 2021, Sergio Rossi has undergone strategic shifts to recapture its market position. The recent appointment of Helen Wright as CEO in November and the naming of Eric Chan as CEO of Lanvin Group indicate a concerted effort to steer the brand toward profitability and innovation.

Revenue for Sergio Rossi dipped by 4 percent to €60 million ($65 million) in 2023, a clear signal of the need for fresh leadership and creative direction. The brand’s shares have plummeted by 85 percent since Lanvin Group’s IPO in late 2022, underscoring the urgency for a successful turnaround.

“Paul’s creative vision and innovative approach are precisely what Sergio Rossi needs to navigate this new chapter,” Eric Chan stated. “His appointment aligns perfectly with our mission to honor the brand’s rich heritage while adapting to the contemporary tastes of our discerning clientele.”

Andrew’s appointment signals a bold move for Sergio Rossi, aiming to blend its historic craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities. As the brand charts its path forward, all eyes will be on Andrew to see how he reinvigorates this iconic name in luxury footwear.
