Two decades ago, Pharrell Williams established his name in fashion history with the launch of the Millionaires Sunglasses, a collaboration with Nigo and Louis Vuitton under the creative vision of Marc Jacobs. Fast forward to 2024, and Williams, now the Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, has reintroduced these iconic shades, blending nostalgia with modern sophistication.
The Millionaires, first seen in 2004, featured an aviator silhouette adorned with Louis Vuitton’s signature motifs. This year, they make a grand comeback, marking their 20th anniversary with a fresh twist by Williams. The new designs pay homage to the originals while pushing boundaries with innovative materials and contemporary aesthetics.
Williams’ reinterpretation includes two distinct versions: the 1.0 and the 3.0. The 1.0 Millionaires, a nod to the classic design, come in two variants. One features chocolate tortoise frames with gradient lenses, accented by turquoise-blue hinges and gold details. The other option is a sleek monochromatic black with aged gold embellishments. Both will hit stores and the online marketplace on July 4, 2024.
For those seeking a futuristic edge, the 3.0 Millionaires offer a cutting-edge update. Constructed from lightweight, durable carbon fiber, these sunglasses are inspired by automotive materials. Available in black with chromotherapy-inclined orange lenses or a monochromatic black version, they boast sleek silver LV-engraved hinges and damier-patterned metal strips. The 3.0 will be available from August 8, 2024.
Pharrell Williams’ journey with Louis Vuitton comes full circle with this launch, underscoring his influence in both fashion and music. The Millionaires Sunglasses remain a symbol of his innovative spirit and the enduring appeal of Louis Vuitton’s design prowess.
