Carlos Nazario, a name synonymous with the cutting edge of fashion editorial and styling, holds the distinguished roles of style director at large for Harper’s Bazaar, contributing editor at American Vogue, and fashion director at the trailblazing Hood by Air. His stylistic narrative is one richly woven with an intricate understanding of design, the pulse of niche markets, and the broader strokes of cultural influence.

Embarking from his roots in Queens, New York, with a vision to redefine styling, Nazario ventured to Paris. It was there, connecting with photographers through Craigslist for test shoots, that he began to carve his niche. Returning to New York, he secured an internship at W, followed by stints at Marc Jacobs and with Katie Grand at Love, which paved his way to work alongside Joe McKenna, known for his campaigns with Abercrombie & Fitch and Calvin Klein. Soon after, Nazario took the bold step to forge his path, collaborating with creatives like Oliver Hadlee and hairstylist Jawara.

Now, hailed by the CFDA as a pivotal figure in shaping fashion’s future, Nazario’s styling prowess has graced icons such as Rihanna, Solange, Zoe Kravitz, Bella Hadid, and Naomi Campbell, partnering with photography luminaries including Alasdair McLellan, Mert Alas, Marcus Piggott, and Mario Sorrenti. His work has made a significant impact, dressing US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a Vanity Fair cover ensemble by a Black designer from her district and featuring Naomi Campbell in Dior couture for Vogue’s November 2021 cover. Nazario’s client list is a testament to his versatility and influence, spanning Lanvin, Burberry, Ambush, Michael Kors, Zara, and Nike.

Marking a milestone in his career and for American Vogue, Nazario became the first Black stylist to style a cover, further extending his expertise to the covers of Italian Vogue, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, i-D, M Le monde, L’uomo Vogue, and W. In the ever-evolving narrative of fashion, Carlos Nazario stands as a beacon of innovation, inclusivity, and cultural resonance.
