Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the distinguished Dutch duo, have made a formidable mark in the realm of fashion photography with their avant-garde and sharply defined artistic imagery. Their collaboration, which blossomed post their fashion studies in Amsterdam, has become synonymous with innovation, particularly for their pioneering use of digital photography and photo-editing techniques that have distinctly set their work apart.

Their educational journey in fashion design laid the groundwork for their partnership, with Matadin studying from 1981 to 1985 and Lamsweerde from 1983 to 1985. It wasn’t until Lamsweerde was commissioned to photograph Matadin’s 1986 Lawina collection that their collaborative journey truly began. Their first major editorial breakthrough, “For Your Pleasure,” was published in The Face in April 1994, setting a precedent for their future work.

Over more than three decades, Inez and Vinoodh have contributed their unique vision to an array of prestigious publications, including various international editions of Vogue, W, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, and Interview, among others. Their commercial collaborations read like a who’s who of the fashion industry, having worked with brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Balmain, Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, showcasing their versatility and the high demand for their distinctive style.

Beyond their photography, Inez and Vinoodh have ventured into new creative territories, such as their partnership with True Botanicals in 2018 for its Autumn/Winter ad campaign and the launch of their own jewelry line in collaboration with Menē in February 2019. This foray into accessories further exemplifies their artistic breadth and influence in shaping contemporary fashion aesthetics.

Married with one son, the couple calls New York their home, continuing to push the boundaries of fashion photography and beyond, solidifying their status as icons of modern visual culture.
