Jamie Hawkesworth

Jamie Hawkesworth

Jamie Hawkesworth, renowned for his unique lo-fi, documentary-style photography, has rapidly ascended to the top ranks of the fashion photography world. His distinctive approach has led to high-profile campaigns for Alexander McQueen, JW Anderson, and Marni, alongside striking editorials for both American and British Vogue and Love magazine. His work for JW Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2015 campaign, characterized by its raw, unadorned aesthetic reminiscent of ’50s horror films, highlights his innovative casting and shooting methods.

Beginning his career in an unconventional manner, Hawkesworth initially explored forensic science, photographing reconstructed crime scenes. This unlikely start sparked a deep interest in the unobserved beauty of everyday life, leading him to document a variety of subjects, including the understated charm of Preston bus station. His project capturing teenagers on solo train journeys around the UK drew the attention of French stylist Benjamin Bruno in 2012, setting the stage for Hawkesworth’s entrance into the fashion world with a major story for Man About Town magazine and the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with JW Anderson.

Hawkesworth’s work deeply impressed Anderson, earning him subsequent commissions for Loewe following Anderson’s appointment as creative director. Renowned for his emphasis on the peculiarities of daily existence, Hawkesworth maintains a commitment to shooting exclusively on film, relying on natural daylight and personally developing his photographs.

In May 2019, Hawkesworth’s exhibition “A Short Pleasurable Journey, Part Two” showcased 86 photographs and a film created over three weeks in the Romanian village of Floresti, further solidifying his reputation as a storyteller through images. July 2019 marked another milestone when he captured Kate Moss for the Autumn/Winter 2019 Alexander McQueen campaign, showcasing his continued influence and contribution to the evolution of fashion photography.
