Mario Sorrenti, with a dynamic entry into the fashion photography world in the 1990s, quickly became renowned for his evocative editorial work, prominently featured in American and Italian Vogue as well as Harper’s Bazaar. Born in Naples and raised in New York within an artistic family, Sorrenti was naturally inclined toward the arts, initially studying painting and sculpture. His creative journey took a pivotal turn in London, where, as a model, he met and fell in love with a then-emerging Kate Moss. This relationship would not only define a personal chapter in his life but also mark the beginning of his illustrious photography career, notably capturing Moss for Calvin Klein’s Obsession campaign, a project that would become iconic in fashion advertising.

Sorrenti’s ability to capture intimate and powerful images has led him to photograph a host of influential figures over the years, including Oprah, Barbra Streisand, Julianne Moore, and Joe Biden. His work in 2012 alone spanned Vanity Fair, Vogue Hommes, W, The New York Times T Magazine, Self Service, and various editions of Vogue, showcasing his versatility and acclaim in the industry.

His commercial portfolio is equally impressive, with Chanel, Hugo Boss, Max Mara, Kenzo, Barneys New York, and Lancôme among his clients, underscoring the broad appeal of his aesthetic vision. In 2011, Sorrenti published “Draw Blood for Proof,” echoing an exhibition from 2004, and his contributions to art and fashion photography have been recognized with permanent exhibitions at prestigious institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Gallery in London.

Beyond his editorial and commercial work, Sorrenti has also contributed to the music industry, shooting album covers for artists like Shakira, Maxwell, and John Taylor. In 2018, he offered a deeper look into his early work with Kate Moss in the book “Kate,” released in collaboration with Phaidon, presenting a collection of unreleased images that highlight the depth of their creative and personal connection.
