Thomas De Kluyver is at the forefront of revolutionizing beauty norms, crafting looks that defy conventional trends with his emphasis on monochrome and bold lipstick choices, drawing inspiration from 80s and 90s rock icons like Kim Gordon and Courtney Love. His distinctive makeup artistry has graced the runways for Opening Ceremony, Carven, and Kenzo, as well as the pages of British Vogue, Vogue Italia, and Dazed, marking him as a prominent figure in the fashion industry.

Hailing from Perth, Australia, De Kluyver’s early foray into makeup began with experimenting on friends and was further encouraged by a gift from Rebecca Williams, the founder of Becca Cosmetics. This gesture, coupled with François Nars’ “Makeup Your Mind,” set De Kluyver on his path. His career took a pivotal turn when he secured a position at MAC, thanks to a recommendation from a friend. In 2007, De Kluyver’s journey led him to London, where his unique makeup styles and outfits quickly garnered the attention of industry veterans like Pat McGrath while working at the club “Collapsing New People.”

De Kluyver’s talent soon translated into opportunities with leading publications such as i-D and Dazed, as well as campaigns for APC, Sies Marjan, and Missoni, solidifying his status within the fashion realm.

In May 2019, De Kluyver shared his vision with the world through his first book, “All I Want to Be,” a collaboration with photographers like Oliver Hadlee Pearch and Harley Weir. The book, praised by Dazed as “a defiant, tender exploration of identity,” reflects De Kluyver’s commitment to challenging and expanding the boundaries of beauty. Further elevating his career, De Kluyver joined Gucci as a global makeup artist, playing a key role in the relaunch of the brand’s makeup line, and continuing to influence and redefine beauty standards on a global scale.
