MSGM Pre Fall 2022 Collection
“Time speeds up and slows down, rears up and bends, oscillates and makes a noise.
Just as in quantum physics, dimensions overlap, boundaries are blurred, “here and now” means today, yesterday and tomorrow. Day is night, night is day, dream is reality and reality is a dream. This is the paradoxical reality that the MSGM Prefall 2022 collection inhabits, between heritage memories and contemporary drive, a cross-fertilisation of stories and languages.
At the MSGM party, somewhere in the time-space somewhere in Milan, the desire to have fun is the centre of gravity that bonds together sprits that are otherwise divergent, different and free.
Silhouettes are broken up: clean proportions, close-fitting and feminine shapes meet oversized looks, maxi hoodies and masculine track jackets.
Mini-dresses in black faux leather, pleated leather, patent leather and glossy surfaces evoke underground atmospheres, with faux-fur coats and houndstooth tweed in acid tones.
The attitude is 1990s: knitwear crop tops over tie-dye denim rave trousers worn with visible boxer shorts, tops and dresses that wrap around the body or bunch up on the skin.
There is the utmost minimalism, essential in its lines but vivid in prints and colours, intensified by details.
Crystals embellish super-loose tailored looks, or black viscose ribbed tops with a second-skin effect. Micro-bouquets explode in floral patterns on stretch tulle, or in multicolour meadows on Lycra.
A multi-dimensional journey begins, accompanied by the sound of distant music. Psychedelic accents appear on clothes: a trippy variant of neon butterflies on tops and dresses with light georgette ruffles, magic mushroom on fluid viscose pyjama suits.
The obsession with Italian design goes beyond the geography of shapes and colours in furnishing and reaches the collection’s DNA. Fluidity, one again.
The inspired work of Gaetano Pesce, free and kaleidoscopic like MSGM itself, influences the creative choices: assembly, treatments, materials. The “magma” coloured print recalls the resin casts of the artists vases and glasses, the iconic products of his “Fish Design”, while the Feltri armchair is the inspiration behind quilted fabric on extra-large hoodies.
Accessories are also like designer furnishings: the CLIC® bags and the new M bag boast bold and distinctly geometric lines, shoes rise from colourful rubber statement soles.
The nighttime palette is enlivened by MSGM’s typical neon tones – on nylon or contrasting stitching in suits and knitwear. With vibrant brushstrokes of lime and fuchsia, tangerine and sky blue, it is a celebration of life over the noise of time.”
