A. Lange & Söhne celebrates the 30th anniversary of the LANGE 1 with four new takes on a classic. Two models of the LANGE 1, both capped at 300 pieces each, bring a choice between platinum with a black onyx dial or pink gold with a blue silver dial. The LITTLE LANGE 1 matches these combinations, with 150 pieces available for each. First launched on October 24, 1994, the LANGE 1’s off-center dial and bold outsize date have stayed as captivating as ever—an instant statement piece, unchanged in its allure.
“The LANGE 1 embodies everything we strive for: originality, elegance, and precision,” says CEO Wilhelm Schmid. “It broke the rules when it was first introduced, and it still does today. Our goal has always been to keep moving forward.”
The LANGE 1’s unique dial layout—Roman numerals, asymmetrical placement, the bold date—follows the golden ratio to achieve its distinct yet timeless balance. Everything falls in place, even if at first glance, it seems not to. These new editions carry that same visual tension, now in celebratory form: the platinum version debuts an onyx dial, a material rarely seen in watchmaking, giving it a jet-black, almost liquid quality. The pink gold edition, meanwhile, is paired with a blue silver dial—a refined, modern twist on classic contrast. The LITTLE LANGE 1 keeps the same vibe, just scaled down for those who like their statement a little more subtle.
Inside, it’s all about craftsmanship. The L121.1 calibre movement, introduced in 2015, powers these pieces with a precision that’s more about the craft than the specs. The outsize date changes at midnight with a satisfying precision that comes from the balance with eccentric poising weights and a unique balance spring.
