Gucci is taking one of its most storied signatures on a global tour—starting in Shanghai. Gucci Bamboo: Decoding an Icon opens at Sunke Villa on March 28, offering a closer look at the legacy of the Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag. Curated and designed by 2050+, the exhibition traces the evolution of the house’s distinctive bamboo-handle design, bridging past and present in a way that feels timely yet deeply rooted in tradition.

First introduced in 1947, the bag has lived many lives, adapting to the style shifts of each era while maintaining its unmistakable silhouette. The exhibition offers a deep dive into its craftsmanship, from the hand-finishing techniques that define its construction to the cultural moments that have cemented its status as a Gucci icon.

Beyond its fashion legacy, Gucci Bamboo: Decoding an Icon also explores the material itself—bamboo, long revered in Chinese culture as a symbol of resilience, elegance, and quiet strength. Through immersive installations and artistic collaborations, the exhibition highlights bamboo’s presence in art, literature, and design, positioning it as both a cultural artifact and a medium of innovation.

Open through April 6, the exhibition invites visitors to see bamboo—and the bag it inspired—through a new lens, reinterpreted for today.
