Lanvin is set to enrich its innovative Lanvin Lab series with a collaboration that intertwines fashion with contemporary art, featuring the work of renowned artist Erwin Wurm. This partnership underscores Lanvin’s enduring commitment to blending its historic elegance with the vibrancy of modern creative spheres, a vision deeply rooted in the legacy of Jeanne Lanvin.
The Lanvin Lab initiative, launched in 2023, serves as a tribute to the brand’s foundational ethos of interweaving fashion with other artistic domains. Its debut collection, which celebrated the harmonious relationship between fashion and music, saw a collaboration with Grammy-award-winning artist Future. This fusion was just the beginning, showcasing Lanvin’s dedication to cultural excellence and its iconic savoir-faire through global platforms.
The latest endeavor in the Lanvin Lab series involves a striking sculptural creation by Erwin Wurm, set to captivate audiences across several of China’s major cities. Titled “Desire,” the sculpture is a profound exploration of our yearnings for objects that symbolize our identity and aspirations. Wurm’s work, known for its anthropomorphic themes, cleverly incorporates Lanvin’s contemporary icons—the Pencil Cat Bag and the Cash sneaker—into a dialogue that bridges Lanvin’s legacy with current cultural currents. These pieces not only reflect the craftsmanship and innovation at Lanvin’s core but also Wurm’s unique perspective on how outer layers, much like clothing, shape our self-expression and the way we are perceived by the world.
This monumental sculpture, bathed in Lanvin’s signature blue, will make its debut in Beijing on April 8, embarking on a tour across six key cities. Positioned near Lanvin boutiques in bustling locales like Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Shenyang, the installation will also grace the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai, coinciding with Wurm’s major solo exhibition in June.
Lanvin Lab’s second edition is a testament to Lanvin’s vision of fostering a dialogue between fashion and art, offering a platform for cultural expression that resonates across borders. Through this collaboration, Lanvin continues to push the boundaries of traditional fashion, inviting audiences to experience the brand’s rich heritage and forward-thinking approach in new and engaging ways.
