In a powerful nod to Earth Day 2024, Stella McCartney unveils her SOS Capsule, a compelling collection that epitomizes sustainability in fashion. This limited-edition lineup features an array of ready-to-wear, vegan bags and footwear, all meticulously crafted from 100% sustainable materials, including regenerative, recycled, and organic fibers. Each piece in the collection bears the distinctive S🌍S emblem, symbolizing a deep commitment to environmental preservation—Save Our Soils, Save Our Seas, Save Our Skies, Save Our Species.
The SOS iconography, originally a motif from the brand’s collaboration with author Jonathan Safran Foer for “We Are the Weather,” adorns unisex boxy tees made from regenerative cotton. This cotton is sourced from SOKTAS, a Turkish farm that has shifted towards regenerative practices with Stella McCartney’s support since 2019. The use of regenerative cotton not only enhances biodiversity and soil health but also captures more atmospheric carbon, thus benefiting local ecosystems and communities without harmful chemicals.
The capsule’s standout, the S-Wave Sport trainer, represents the pinnacle of sustainable design. Constructed entirely from hemp—a robust, plant-based fiber that grows without harsh pesticides and naturally detoxifies the soil—the sneaker is Stella’s most eco-friendly to date. Complementing its sustainable upper are recycled cotton linings, recycled polyester laces and logos, and a sole made from vulcanized recycled rubber.
The collection also features Amazon green jumpers knit from ethically sourced, RWS-certified wool and unisex long-sleeved tops in Polar White, crafted from a blend of organic and recycled cotton. The accessories, including bags crafted in sandy beige organic cotton, demonstrate Stella McCartney’s longstanding commitment to reducing water usage and chemical exposure in cotton production, a standard she has championed in luxury fashion since 2008.
Beyond fashion, Stella McCartney has co-founded the SOS Fund, a $200 million initiative aimed at empowering sustainable innovation. The fund supports cutting-edge projects like NFW’s MIRUM®, a plant-based, circular leather alternative; Protein Evolution’s enzyme technology for recycling polyester; and Keel Labs’ regenerative seaweed-based yarn. These innovations are not only paving the way for a sustainable future in fashion but are also integrated into Stella McCartney’s designs, offering luxury pieces with a minimal environmental footprint.
Available exclusively at Stella McCartney boutiques worldwide and on stellamccartney.com starting April 22, the SOS Capsule invites fashion enthusiasts to embrace sustainability without compromising on style or luxury.
