Nina Ricci Pre Fall 2022. Known for observing the world with their underwater aesthetic, Lisi Herrebrugh and Rushemy Botter have opted for another classical element as key inspiration this season: air. What started as an obsession with the hypnotizing swirl of an Air Du Temps flacon soon became a thorough investigation on all extreme windsports, from skydiving to kitesurf and wingsuit.

As always, contrast prevails: archives meet sportswear in a cool clash of classical vs technical, tailoring vs flou, matte vs shiny. Nina Ricci’s historical cocoon shapes get blown up like parachutes in technical fabrics. Iconic tailoring is twisted with integrated wingsuit appliqués worn hanging off the back. Sleek pants and skirts, once unzipped, recall the fluidity of kite tails and ribbons. The collection calls for light boldness and self-transcendence.

Tailoring checks collide with neon activewear prints of kite-wing patterns and blurry parachutes. Classical black, navy, beige and white are intercepted by bold hues of jacaranda, mustard, mandarine, lime or turquoise, reproduced on hand- printed gradient mohair scarves. Cloche hats evolve into protective helmets. Bags as well go for the extra practical: elongated tote bags perpetuate the collection’s fabrics while crossbody camera bags tailor to the more venturesome.

Providing equipment for maneuvering everyday life, this creative proposal initiates the first chapter of an air(volution).
