Madonna and Charli xcx have released “Danceteria Afterhours,” their first collaboration, through Warner Records. The new version of “Danceteria,” from Madonna’s Confessions II, was co-produced by Madonna and producers Andrew Watt, Cirkut, and Stuart Price.
Danceteria, the New York nightclub behind the song’s name, helped Madonna get her music heardl. In a 2008 interview with writer Tim Lawrence, DJ and producer Mark Kamins recalled Madonna giving him a demo of “Everybody,” which he played at the club before taking her music to record executive Seymour Stein at Sire. Kamins also described sharing the decks with DJ Sean Cassette, moving between punk, funk, and disco over 12-hour nights.
Charli and Madonna hosted their Club Confessions party with Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week. Speaking to broadcaster Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 6 Music in June, in an interview reported by Press Association and published by RTÉ, Charli described their conversations about making records. Madonna, she said, was “so interested in really talking about the music that she makes, and how and why.” She also explained that her appreciation of Madonna developed as she became more interested in music as an art form.
The physical edition pairs “Danceteria Afterhours” with the original song and a remix by DJ and producer Harry Romero. Madonna’s official store lists the three-track CD for shipping in early November; the UK edition comes in a purple sleeve.
