Bao Bao Issey Miyake will open its first standalone U.S. flagship on June 12, 2025, at 126 Prince Street in New York’s Soho. This Prince Street boutique marks the Japanese accessories brand’s only location outside Asia. The move comes 15 years after Bao Bao launched its first independent collection in Fall 2010 and is known for its geometric, transformative bags made of triangular pieces, signaling a new chapter in the brand’s global expansion.

Designed by Japanese studio Moment, the 513-square-foot space draws inspiration from the irori, a traditional Japanese hearth that serves as a communal gathering place. In Bao Bao’s modern interpretation, a large ceiling light at the center of the store evokes that hearth, doubling as an inviting gathering point and a presentation spot for products. Plaster-finished walls and a custom hammered aluminum table complete the minimalist interior, highlighting the brand’s emphasis on tactile materials and structural forms in its design.

To celebrate the opening, Bao Bao Issey Miyake will debut a store-exclusive capsule collection called “Lucent Love.” This limited-edition series of all-red bags – including a tote, crossbody and pouch – will be available only at the Soho flagship. The signature Lucent bag is even folded into the shape of a heart, a playful celebration of brand’s warm welcome to New York City.
