Debuting during Art Basel, the limited-run collection transforms the luggage brand’s signature suitcase design into a covetable stool.

If you’ve ever perched on your Rimowa suitcase while waiting at the airport, the brand now has a more elegant solution now. The luggage label teamed up with Swiss furniture house Vitra to create an aluminum stool on wheels – essentially a carry-on turned into covetable home furniture.

Clad in Rimowa’s signature grooved aluminum, the cube-shaped stool sits on four multi-directional wheels just like a premium cabin bag. Its lid doubles as a detachable cushion, and lifting it reveals a storage compartment lined with Vitra’s textile, complete with a removable leather divider to organize whatever you stow inside.

Rimowa and Vitra’s mashup also includes a gleaming Aluminum Toolbox drawn from a classic Vitra design by Arik Levy. Originally a plastic desktop caddy, the toolbox has been reimagined with Rimowa’s anodized aluminum shell and a recycled-fabric lining, turning a humble organizer into a high-design objet.

Eager collectors should mark June 18 on their calendars, as that’s when the Rimowa x Vitra collection officially drops via the brands’ websites. Only a select few will get to own them – just 1,000 of the stools (priced around $2,500 each) and 100 of the toolboxes (~$625) are being produced worldwide.
o celebrate the launch, a special installation at Vitra’s design campus in Weil am Rhein (inside a Zaha Hadid-designed space) will run through late June.
