Design Within Reach teams up with vacation rental platform Boutique to turn Palm Desert’s iconic Wave House into a vibrant home featuring the Paul Smith Collection.

Palm Desert’s landmark Miles C. Bates “Wave House” has been thoughtfully revived by Design Within Reach (DWR) and vacation rental curator Boutique, showcasing a special edit from the Paul Smith Collection. Originally built in 1955 by architect Walter S. White, the Wave House — known for its distinctively undulating roofline — is now more than a mid-century curiosity; it’s an immersive living space that bridges fashion, interior design, and experiential hospitality.

Inside, iconic mid-century furniture pieces from Herman Miller and Knoll have been updated with bold Maharam textiles personally designed by British fashion veteran Paul Smith. From the vibrant Eames Molded Plastic Chairs to Eero Saarinen’s famed Womb Chair, each piece subtly infuses Smith’s whimsical sensibility into the desert-modernist setting.

The Wave House is available to book exclusively through Boutique, offering guests a tangible way to experience the Paul Smith Collection within the home’s carefully curated interiors. Reservations are open through August 31, 2025, and each stay includes perks like a $250 gift card to DWR and future credits toward additional Boutique rentals.
With this collaboration, DWR, Boutique, and Paul Smith have created not only an elevated design destination but also a fresh way for visitors to connect intimately with design icons amid the desert landscape.
