Sound Bites: Joel Seigle’s Subwoofer Table Serves Sonic Flair

Growing up in Elgin, Illinois, Joel Seigle spent years around the family lumber yard, where he developed an affinity for wood and thoughtful construction. In 2024, he channeled that background into the Subwoofer Dining Table—often called the Table Bass—a sleek piece carved from solid ash with a restrained tabletop and a JBL 2226h speaker tucked into its single support, finished in an iridescent red.

This design sprang from one simple question: How do you amp up bass at home without sacrificing precious square footage? Seigle’s answer was to transform his dining setup into a functional subwoofer that doesn’t hide its power. “I’ve seen subs hidden in coffee tables and benches but I wanted to showcase the driver rather than hide it,“ he shared on his Instagram. By positioning the speaker as a key design element, he avoided the usual clunky look of bulky audio equipment while still delivering punchy sound in a small footprint.

Replacing a basic store-bought table with this custom hybrid gave Seigle’s space new personality and real audio muscle. It’s a testament to his belief that décor should serve multiple needs without feeling forced. The leg-turned-subwoofer merges crisp engineering with an everyday dining surface, offering a creative fix for the usual speaker eyesore.

As of early 2025, Seigle has hinted on social media about more pieces that blend high-fidelity sound with practical home furnishings. If the Table Bass is any indication, this is only the start of his pursuit to shake up traditional interiors—both literally and figuratively.
