Willow Smith is charting new territory with Moncler, unveiling a collaborative collection that marries her avant-garde sensibility with the brand’s alpine roots. After a preview at Shanghai’s City of Genius, the full line has finally dropped, and it’s a study in elegant contrasts.
“Minimalism and utilitarianism. Femininity and masculinity. Black and white. Bringing juxtaposing ideas together in an elegant way is something that excites me, and I wanted to explore that in this collection,” Smith says.
At the heart of the collection is a down jacket dress that can moonlight as a sleeping bag—an inventive twist on Moncler’s iconic puffer. Functional elements like detachable hems and oversized pockets amplify its versatility. There’s also the utility-chic canvas trousers with zip-off legs, designed to adapt to any setting. Paired with substantial sweatshirts, enveloping knits, and form-fitting layers, the pieces coalesce into a wardrobe that’s ready for both the city streets and the great outdoors. The monochrome scheme—dominated by deep blacks and a lunar “Moon-dust White”—keeps the focus sharp.
In a nod to both collaborators, the designs feature an intertwined “W” and “M” monogram, a clever fusion of their initials. Metallic ring details echo Willow’s personal style, reminiscent of her signature piercings. Adding another layer of intimacy, snippets of handwritten lyrics from her song “Alone” are discreetly incorporated, bridging her music and fashion endeavors.
The accompanying campaign channels movement and the spirit of adventure, reflecting Smith’s own connection to nature. “I’m incredibly passionate about the outdoors and exploring this magnificent earth. I imagine these clothes effortlessly transitioning from nighttime camping to high-fashion eveningwear,” she says.
This partnership marks another stride for Moncler in blending high fashion with individualistic expression, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to innovation.
