Angela Missoni

Angela Missoni has spent decades at the helm of her family’s storied knitwear label, Missoni, guiding it through reinvention while keeping its identity intact. Taking on the role of creative director in 1997, Angela’s tenure saw Missoni return to the forefront of fashion, thanks to her ability to breathe new life into the brand’s signature zigzag motifs and vibrant patterns. It was under her direction that Missoni not only strengthened its relevance in the ever-shifting fashion landscape but also expanded into new territories, from collaborations with major brands to forays into hospitality.
Before diving into the fashion business, Angela’s life was rooted elsewhere. She initially ran a children’s nursery, stepping into the family business only after her children were school-aged. The shift marked the beginning of a new chapter, one that would see her leave a substantial mark on Missoni. Her first collection for the house, shown in 1997, immediately set a fresh tone—one that honored the past but pushed the brand into the present. Over the years, she spearheaded collaborations with names as varied as San Pellegrino and Target, broadening Missoni’s reach while maintaining its distinctive ethos.
Angela stepped down as creative director in May 2021, wrapping up her tenure with the Autumn/Winter 2021 collection. She continues as president of Missoni, overseeing the family brand as it moves into the next era. Her daughter, Margherita, has stepped in to take a larger role, particularly with the younger M Missoni line. Angela’s vision—to eventually have a “Part II” of her own career, much like her mother’s pivot to Missoni Home—suggests a future that’s still closely tied to the brand, albeit at a different pace, embracing the legacy she helped shape while allowing the next generation to chart its course.
