Jawara Wauchope, a trailblazing editorial hairstylist, has become a seminal figure in the world of fashion and beauty, known for his innovative approach to hair. With a unique talent for crafting gravity-defying hairstyles, he has styled some of the most iconic figures in the entertainment and arts sector, including Solange and Cardi B.

Originally from New York and raised in Jamaica, Jawara’s passion for hairstyling was nurtured from a young age by his family. His pursuit of this craft led him back to New York, where he funded his education at the Fashion Institute of Technology by working as an assistant in a hair salon, furthering his expertise at the Aveda Institute. Despite a brief venture into fashion merchandising after graduating in 2009, his dedication to hairstyling prevailed, guiding him back to his true calling.

Jawara’s career trajectory took a significant turn when he met the legendary Sam McKnight, who not only became his mentor but also invited him to join his esteemed team. This mentorship was a pivotal moment, laying the foundation for Jawara’s freelance career, which began in earnest in 2013.

Since then, Jawara has collaborated with celebrated photographers such as Norman Jean Roy, Lacey, and Oliver Hadlee Pearch. His distinctive hairstyling has adorned the pages of numerous high-profile publications, including several editions of Vogue, WSJ Magazine, i-D, and Dazed. Moreover, Jawara’s creative vision has been instrumental in shaping the hair aesthetics for runway shows and campaigns for illustrious brands like Calvin Klein, Chanel Beauty, Hermès, and Off-White, solidifying his status as a visionary in the realm of hairstyling.
