Luke and Lucie Meier are the husband-and-wife creative directors breathing new life into Jil Sander, that quintessentially minimalist label synonymous with crisp tailoring and cerebral elegance. The Meiers have injected a more human touch into the brand’s sharp silhouette, balancing precision with intimacy. Since taking the reins in 2017, their dual vision has transformed the house, introducing elements of warmth, craft, and subtle romance, all while staying true to the understated luxury that defines Jil Sander.
Luke, originally from Canada, and Lucie, from Switzerland, first crossed paths in Florence, studying at Polimoda. It was a meeting of minds—Luke had already immersed himself into tailoring at FIT, while Lucie pursued fashion marketing. Their professional paths would take them through some of fashion’s most influential houses: Lucie honed her skills at Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga, before stepping up as co-interim creative director at Dior, between the tenures of Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Luke, on the other hand, cut his teeth at Supreme, where he served as design director for eight years, and then co-founded OAMC, blending streetwear sensibilities with luxury craftsmanship.
Their journey to Jil Sander marked a pivotal moment, both for them and for the house itself. Taking over from Rodolfo Paglialunga, the Meiers have brought an almost poetic duality to the collections. Lucie’s meticulous refinement and Luke’s laid-back edge have merged into a design language that feels both effortless and exacting. Their debut for Spring/Summer 2018 set the tone—think fluid shapes, immaculate cuts, and a palette that whispers instead of shouts. The collections since then have seen them dive deeper into the brand’s DNA, adding artisanal touches that feel surprisingly personal.
Balancing multiple roles, Luke also continues his work with OAMC, a brand that has carved out its own niche by melding workwear influences with forward-thinking design. Under his leadership, OAMC continues to gain traction, stocked by some of the most well-regarded retailers worldwide. Meanwhile, at Jil Sander, the Meiers’ vision of understated elegance has positioned them as one of fashion’s most compelling power couples, effortlessly redefining what modern luxury can look like today.
