Pat McGrath Gives Louis Vuitton Its First Lip Liner

Pat McGrath, Creative Director of Cosmetics for La Beauté Louis Vuitton, has given the house its first lip liner, the LV Crayon, a $58 pencil shaped like the monogram.

McGrath built the Crayon as a homage to the precision technique behind two decades of her Louis Vuitton runway looks, bringing it to an everyday product.

Every look I have ever created on the Louis Vuitton runway begins with the lip line, it is where precision becomes art. The LV Crayon is a tool that deserves to be in the hands of every woman. It's both seamless to use and beautiful to hold.

Louis Vuitton calls the formula featherlight, built on a peptide and a creamy, melting texture that glides on. The house says it visibly plumps the lip and leaves it feeling revitalized, with definition that holds all day.

For color, McGrath cut 10 saturated shades, from 190 Beige Atlas, a nude, to 896 Monogram Rouge, a deep burgundy. The range leans on nudes and rosewoods, with a set of LV reds at the darker end.

"I have always believed that the most powerful tools in any make-up artist's kit are the ones that enhance without overpowering," McGrath says. "The LV Crayon shades were built from that philosophy, the finest nudes and rosewoods, each one chosen with absolute precision, anchored by a fearless edit of iconic LV reds that bring the unexpected and deliver the drama."

The Crayon is made to layer with LV Rouge and LV Baume. It went on sale June 25, alongside a Beauty Sharpener at $455, a Lip Blending Brush at $115, and a Lip Pencil Case at $980.
