Pat McGrath’s backstage alchemy for Maison Margiela Artisanal 2024 took fashion into a new dimension. Gwendoline Christie and Leon Dame appeared like living porcelain, their skin reflecting every beam of light. Fast-forward a year, and that ultra-glossy look—dubbed “glass skin”—is no longer confined to the runway.

Today, Pat McGrath Labs revealed Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Artistry Mask, set to release on January 30. It delivers “the same hypnotic, light-catching finish that left the beauty world spellbound,” the brand said in a statement. A single-step gel that peels off to reveal a pore-blurring gleam, the formula unites glycerin, rose flower water, and allantoin for an otherworldly sheen.

Although McGrath originally worked with multiple products and an airbrush for Galliano’s show, her new release strips down the complexity. At $38, the limited-edition mask can be layered over bare skin or makeup with a damp brush. Each coat dries into a slick finish, hardening into that signature high-shine film seen on the catwalk. For maximal effect, McGrath suggests repeating thin, even layers until the desired reflection takes shape, then using a hair dryer (on a cool setting) to speed up the drying time. If you prefer a subtler glow, a “spotlighting” trick—dabbing the product onto the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, and chin—puts a smaller dose of the glassy look on display.

The launch arrives just as John Galliano departs Maison Margiela after a decade of imaginative shows. He leaves behind a legacy of lavish couture moments, including the collaboration with McGrath that redefined how beauty and fashion collide. And now, one year after that stratospheric viral moment, you can try on a touch of that transformative runway magic at home.
