Angèle has released “Love Triangle” with American singer-songwriter Caroline Polachek and French producer SebastiAn. The single premiered on BBC Radio 1 on September 29 and previews Instinct, Angèle’s third album, releasing October 16.
Angèle described the story as a conflict between wanting both people and fearing heartbreak. “I wanted to give another woman a voice in response to the first part of the story,” she explained in a release statement published by Our Culture.
During recording at a house in Hollywood, the singers discovered that both had performed at Brussels jazz bar L’Archiduc as teenagers, Polachek recalled in her statement. She described their delivery on “Love Triangle” as “almost without singing at all.”
Angèle traced the title to a dinner conversation in Brussels, where she heard friends discussing a love triangle and wrote the words on paper beneath the table. Later, a demo’s arpeggio caught her attention during a Paris studio session with SebastiAn. They developed the song with producer Tristan Salvati; SebastiAn produced the finished track, with Angèle and Salvati as co-producers.
The 13-track album follows 2021’s Nonante-Cinq. Its guests also include Justice on “What You Want” and Soulwax on “Trop.”
