Ai Weiwei, the famed Chinese artist and dissident revisits his iconic act of defiance from the “Study of Perspective” series (1995-2011), where he photographed himself giving the middle finger to global power symbols. Now, that rebellious spirit is distilled into a fresh collection of circular artworks.

Offered in blue and black, each piece is a handcrafted marvel. Weiwei employs carved wooden blocks drenched in black ink, making every print uniquely textured. Collaborating with British printer Make-Ready, the works shimmer with a finish that echoes his porcelain creations, themselves nods to ancient Yuan and Ming dynasty ceramics.
“Circle in Black” is limited to 100 editions per color. Measuring 23.6 x 23.6 inches unframed and expanding to 26.3 x 26.3 inches when framed, the prints are set on 225gsm Liber Charta White Smooth paper. Each one comes signed, numbered, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Art enthusiasts looking to own a piece of Weiwei’s audacious commentary can enter the drawing at Avant Arte. The opportunity closes on Tuesday, December 10 at 9 a.m. ET.
