Tribeca’s art scene just got an unexpected burst of air. Barcelona-based collective Penique Productions, known for immersive inflatable installations, has debuted its latest project, “Basement,” as part of the “Inflation” exhibition at The Locker Room’s new gallery space. The installation fills the entire lower-level gallery with a single, expansive inflatable structure, shifting how visitors interact with the existing architecture.

Founded in 2007 by Sergi Arbusà during his studies at the Universitat de Barcelona, Penique Productions began as an exploration of space and form through inflatable structures. Inspired by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Arbusà’s initial experiments evolved into a collective that has since transformed spaces worldwide, including Rio de Janeiro’s Parque Lage Visual Art School and Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2024 runway in Paris.

“Basement” continues this tradition, challenging visitors to reconsider their perceptions of space, function, and sensory experience. The installation’s monochrome palette and immersive design create a dialogue between the artwork and the architecture it inhabits, blurring the lines between structure and art.
