Chanel is rewriting its Spring-Summer 2025 pre-collection with a distinct blend of music, film, and fashion. Under Sofia Coppola’s direction, photographer Craig McDean captures singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams in looks that reinterpret the House’s timeless codes. Fresh off her appearances in Chanel at the Grammy Awards and Met Gala, Abrams steps in as the newest ambassador, showing an effortless approach that taps into her understated appeal.
Sofia Coppola’s signature perspective weaves through the collection, echoing the carefree mood of her films. Tweed jackets are tossed over jeans, while baseball-style jackets get a boyish spin with Bermuda shorts and caps. Nods to the ’90s come through in denim layered with chain jewelry and a softly embossed quilted leather that recalls Chanel’s classic diamond pattern. This embossed treatment appears on a jacket, a sleek black dress, and roomy totes.
Pearls, which were dear to Gabrielle Chanel, animate much of the collection. They’re stitched into braids on tweed jackets, printed on worn-in denim, and scattered across knitwear. Accessories take that theme further with sautoir necklaces, rings, and statement bags. Lightweight tweeds in pale pink, sky blue, and black-and-white build a fresh palette, while oversize 11.12 tweed bags, platform shoes, and cuff bracelets with the iconic double C affirm Chanel’s legacy.
A series of visuals highlights a treasure trove of accessories. Bows and pearls adorn sandals, and delicate barrettes and camellias break up the laid-back look. The collection arrives in mid-January 2025, coinciding with Chanel’s ongoing expansion, including ephemeral boutiques that popped up in East Hampton last year. The brand’s forward-looking energy pairs well with Abrams’s creative spirit, proving Chanel is ready for a new wave of style.
