Gucci’s relationship with bamboo started in 1947, when material shortages forced the house to rethink luxury. Founder Guccio Gucci, inspired by his own collection of canes and walking sticks, turned to bamboo—a lightweight yet durable alternative—to craft handbag handles. Each was handmade by Florentine artisans, shaped over an open flame, softened, fired, and lacquered to achieve its signature finish. Patricia Gucci, Guccio’s wife, saw further potential in the design, borrowing the curved lines of horse saddles to shape the bag’s structure. What began as a solution became an enduring symbol of Gucci’s craftsmanship, embraced by Hollywood’s elite and international jet setters.
This season, that signature element makes the jump from handbags to jewelry. For Spring-Summer 2025, Gucci reinterprets bamboo in sculptural gold and palladium pieces, twisting the motif into chokers, bracelets, and forearm cuffs. Some styles come lacquered in bold enamel, a nod to Gucci’s knack for blending heritage with modernity.
The collection includes the Gucci Bamboo XL enamel bracelet, priced at approximately $1,200, and the Gucci Bamboo enamel bracelet at around $1,070, with gold-plated brass or palladium versions retailing for about $930. The Gucci Bamboo forearm bracelet in gold-plated brass or palladium is priced at approximately $860, while the Gucci Bamboo choker necklace, the boldest of the lineup, is available for around $2,340, with gold-plated brass or palladium versions at about $2,120.
Available now online and arriving in Gucci boutiques mid-February, the collection marks the next chapter in Gucci’s ongoing dialogue with bamboo—only this time, it’s made to be worn a little differently.
