Bottega Veneta Breaks Its Silence with a Hands-On Teaser

The Italian house’s “Craft is our Language” teaser relies on a language of hand gestures to honor 50 years of the intrecciato weave.

In its newly teased campaign pointedly titled “Craft is our Language,” Bottega Veneta celebrates 50 years of its signature intrecciato weave through quietly evocative imagery. Rolled out via Bottega’s website, the black-and-white teaser visuals keep the focus on hands rather than handbags. Photographer Jack Davison’s lens captures one hand flashing a nonchalant peace sign, two palms meeting to form a heart, and a pair of arms interweaving their fingers like braided leather. Actual Bottega products only make cameo appearances – a glimpse of a woven jacket sleeve here, a flash of intrecciato gloves there.

At the helm of this subtle showcase is Louise Trotter, Bottega Veneta’s newly appointed creative director. The British designer, celebrated for her approach to craft and real-world inspiration from previous stints at Joseph, Lacoste and Carven, stepped into the role earlier this year as the house’s first female creative lead. Rather than announce her arrival with a loud overhaul, Trotter is easing in by amplifying what Bottega already does best – making quiet luxury speak volumes. It’s a deft strategy that honors Bottega’s heritage while subtly signaling a new chapter.

For a brand that literally went silent on social media in 2021, an unorthodox teaser like this feels par for the course – and right on time. By letting craft itself become the message, the house reinforces its “if you know, you know” mystique while setting the stage for Trotter’s era without so much as raising its voice.
