Glenn Martens Lands at Maison Margiela

Maison Margiela has a new figure at the forefront. Glenn Martens, known for his distinct viewpoint shaped by years at Y/Project and training at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, is stepping into the role of creative director. His appointment marks a shift for a house that has challenged norms since its founding, as it continues to merge unconventional thinking with precise technique.

News of his selection emerged alongside an official statement from OTB Group, adding a fresh element to the label’s lineage. “I feel extremely honoured to join the amazing Maison Margiela, a truly unique house that has been inspiring the world for decades. And I thank Renzo for the trust he is putting in me,” Martens said.

Renzo Rosso, OTB chairman, offered his perspective on this evolution. “I have worked with Glenn for years, I have witnessed his talent, and I know what he is capable of. After Martin, who gave life to the Maison and its unique Artisanal line, and John, who made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world, I am proud to have a third couturier at its helm. Glenn, who studied at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts like Martin, has already shown his prowess and his vision in couture.”

Margiela’s ongoing experiments with digital presentations have kept it on the radar of industry observers, and Martens’ arrival points to another striking chapter. This new direction continues the brand’s tradition of pushing creative boundaries while embracing new forms of expression.
