Haider Ackermann Takes the Helm as Tom Ford’s Creative Director

Tom Ford has a new creative force behind the wheel: Haider Ackermann. The Colombian-born, Paris-based designer, celebrated for his razor-sharp tailoring and effortless sensuality, steps into the role of creative director with immediate effect, marking a significant new chapter for the brand.

Ackermann’s ascent into this prestigious position is far from unexpected. His recent high-profile collaborations, including designing Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Spring-Summer 2023 haute couture collection, put him firmly in the spotlight. Earlier this year, he also made waves by becoming Canada Goose’s first-ever creative director, a role that added an unexpected layer of rugged sophistication to his resume. These projects followed his tenure at Berluti and the closing of his own eponymous label in 2020, a brand that left a lasting imprint on the industry.

Ackermann succeeds Peter Hawkings, a long-time right-hand man to Tom Ford himself, who stepped down in July after just two seasons at the helm. Ford, who remains a cultural icon and tastemaker, offered a glowing endorsement of Ackermann’s appointment. “I’ve admired Haider’s work for years,” Ford shared in a statement. “His use of color is unmatched, his precision is impeccable, and his vision is undeniably modern.”

Tom Ford, now owned by beauty giant Estée Lauder and with its fashion operations licensed to Zegna, is positioned for a sleek evolution under Ackermann’s watch. With Ackermann’s unique aesthetic—a blend of bold sensuality and minimalistic rigor—the brand seems poised for an exciting reinvention, one that remains true to its DNA while pushing the boundaries of luxury.
