Chanel has named Matthieu Blazy its new Artistic Director of Fashion Activities, a move that promises to send ripples through the world of luxury fashion. Starting in 2025, Blazy will oversee the house’s Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear, and Accessories collections. Reporting to Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s President of Fashion, and working out of Paris, Blazy is set to bring his distinctive creative touch to one of the industry’s most storied maisons.
“I am thrilled and honored to join the wonderful House of Chanel,” Blazy shared in a statement, signaling his excitement for the path ahead. “I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together.”
Blazy’s appointment is already being met with high expectations. Pavlovsky expressed confidence in the designer’s ability to honor Chanel’s iconic codes while charting bold new territory: “His audacious personality, innovative approach to creation, and dedication to craftsmanship will take Chanel in exciting new directions.”
Alain Wertheimer, Chanel’s Global Executive Chairman, and Leena Nair, Global CEO, echoed the sentiment, calling Blazy “one of the most gifted designers of his generation” and crediting his vision as key to propelling Chanel’s creative legacy into the future.
Blazy’s resume is a masterclass in contemporary fashion. A graduate of La Cambre in Brussels, the Franco-Belgian designer began his career with Raf Simons, shaping men’s collections before moving to Maison Margiela, where he helmed the Artisanal line and ready-to-wear. His creative evolution continued at Celine under Phoebe Philo, followed by a stint as Design Director at Calvin Klein alongside Raf Simons. Most recently, Blazy served as Creative Director at Bottega Veneta, where his tenure redefined the brand’s modern identity.
