Winter essentials just got an intricate makeover, thanks to COS and photographer Chris Perani‘s latest collaboration. This capsule collection explores winter signatures through Perani’s lens, reimagining them in vibrant colors and intricate patterns inspired by the natural world.
Chris Perani, based in San Rafael, California, grew up surrounded by forests and marshlands, which sparked his fascination with hidden layers of nature. His work in macro photography reveals that fascination, capturing extraordinary details often missed by the naked eye. For this collection, Perani focuses on the unseen textures of organic structures—like mineral formations or the iridescent scales of butterfly wings—using a microscope lens to achieve an incredibly shallow depth of field. Each final image, built from 2,100 separate exposures, offers a new perspective on the delicate beauty of nature.
The 24-piece collection brings Perani’s macro photography to life in tactile materials and familiar silhouettes. A classic white shirt features a beaded appliqué inspired by butterfly wings, while a double-faced wool knit dress turns an everyday staple into an elegant statement piece, its fluid silhouette reminiscent of natural movement. Deep colors and digital prints capture Perani’s aesthetic, enriching denim sets and knitwear, each piece striking a balance between art and wearability.
From menswear and womenswear to accessories, the collection arrives online and at select COS locations this December. It’s a celebration of what happens when craftsmanship meets a sharp lens on the natural world—a visual journey turned wearable.
