They move slowly, almost weightlessly, despite their massive size. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world, often stretching over 40 feet long, yet their presence in the ocean is anything but disruptive. Feeding on plankton and algae, they act as natural regulators, keeping marine ecosystems in check by preventing overgrowth that could throw the balance off.

But these creatures, as vast as they are, aren’t immune to the threats of modern industry. Marine biologist Giovanni Chimienti and whale shark expert Alberto Garcia Baciero break down the dangers: overfishing, boat collisions, and the consequences of unchecked tourism all factor into their dwindling numbers. And then there’s pollution—not only harming the sharks directly but also disrupting their food chain at its most basic level.

Now, 1% of proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND Collection goes toward expanding those efforts, proving that fashion and sustainability can work in tandem, rather than at odds.
