This spring, Crafted World, LOEWE’s traveling exhibition, touches down in Tokyo, bringing nearly two centuries of artistry, heritage, and innovation to the vibrant Harajuku district. Opening on March 29, 2025, the exhibition highlights LOEWE’s transformation from a Madrid-based leather-making collective in 1846 to a global name synonymous with luxury and craftsmanship. Japan holds a special place in this story as the first country outside Europe where LOEWE established a presence, opening its first store there in 1973.
First introduced in Shanghai in 2024, Crafted World is a journey through LOEWE’s history, blending tradition with forward-thinking design. Conceived with OMA, the renowned architecture studio, the exhibition offers an immersive exploration of LOEWE’s defining moments—from the landscapes of Spain to the energy of Paris Fashion Week. Visitors will also step inside the creative collaborations that have shaped the brand’s narrative, including partnerships with Studio Ghibli and Kyoto’s Suna Fujita ceramics studio.
Tokyo’s edition of Crafted World adds a localized lens, showcasing LOEWE’s cultural dialogue with Japan. A standout feature is a video chronicling the Ōnishi family’s centuries-old tradition of crafting ceremonial Kama tea kettles in Kyoto, supported by the LOEWE FOUNDATION. Also on display are works by LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize finalists such as Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, Moe Watanabe, and Genta Ishizuka, alongside contributions from Salone del Mobile artists like ARKO, Hafu Matsumoto, and Jirō Yonezawa.
Interactive spaces invite visitors to connect with LOEWE’s commitment to the handmade, from signature designs to collaborations that bridge time and place. It’s an invitation to experience the soul of the brand, brought to life through objects, stories, and art.
Open from March 29 to May 11, 2025, at 6-35-6 Jingumae in Shibuya-ku, the exhibition is free to the public, though tickets must be reserved in advance. Crafted World is an opportunity to engage with LOEWE’s enduring celebration of craft and creativity, offering a fresh perspective on its place in the cultural conversation.
