Byredo introduces Havana Tonka, a 70 ml extrait de parfum inspired by Havana after dark. It joins Night Veils, the brand’s collection of highly concentrated perfume extracts, which builds each composition around a central ingredient. For Havana Tonka, roasted tonka bean is explored through, per Byredo, “the warmth of rum and the smoky sensuality of tobacco leaves.”
The tobacco leaves accord sits at the heart of the fragrance alongside violet, cashmere woods and white suede. Byredo describes the combination as warm and enveloping, with tobacco supplying the smoky character. Violet gives the heart a floral component among the wood and suede notes.
Bergamot and pink peppercorn essential oils appear in the opening with rum and, per the brand, “the creamy sweetness of crème brûlée.” Byredo uses the dessert accord to soften the opening’s brighter notes. Rum and tobacco establish the Havana reference, while crème brûlée brings a gourmand detail to the composition.
Roasted tonka bean absolute forms the base with patchouli essential oil, benzoin resinoid and skin musks. Byredo’s description emphasizes a gradual increase in richness as the fragrance develops on the skin, with the roasted tonka becoming more prominent in the drydown. The intended finish is warm and musky, with a lingering trail. Havana Tonka is priced at $465 for 70 ml.
