The Denim Tears x Comme des Garçons Parfums Tears Eau de Parfum is a musk floral arriving September 18 at Africa Diaspora Goods, select Dover Street Market locations, Comme des Garçons boutiques, and the Denim Tears webstore. Perfumer Paul Guerlain formulated the blend around cotton, translating the heavy air of rural Georgia when midday heat rises from damp red clay.

Initial sprays release a sharp, resinous green through galbanum, ambrettolide, and sage. Past the opening, the middle layer pivots into a powdery floral center of daffodil, jasmine, flouve, and orris. The dry-down sheds sweetness for an arid finish, settling on vetiver, cut hay, cypriol, and musk to evoke sun-baked agricultural acreage.

Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory anchored the scent brief in his childhood summers in Harlem, Georgia, turning raw cotton into both an aroma and an artistic medium. “There’s certain smells that I know of from my time spending my summers in Harlem, Georgia: the red clay, the morning dew, all of it, the sweat from the heat, all of it, and all that mixes together here,” Emory said in the collection notes.
